Hi, I am Jenn!
How best to describe me….hmmmm
Mommy, Sewcialist, budding entrepreneur, avid reader, designer, teacher, #critches, proud Texan.
I am a 35 year old, full time single mom of a very feisty threenager. Each and every day is a new challenge as we discover new adventures in the life of an immunocompromised child. One who shows me daily how to live life to its fullest and never take anything for granted.
My fondest childhood memory is Christmas when I turned 8, my grandmothers put their heads together, in two different states mind you, and gifted me with a sewing machine. From that moment on, I was in heaven when we visited as I got “special treatment” that none of the other grandchildren got, one on one sewing lessons and cherished memories of sewing with MaMaw in East Texas and Grandma in Alabama. As a child with severe hearing loss, the patience that both of my grandmothers showed me was essentially life changing as they gave me an outlet for my frustrations with peer pressure and the way “normal” kids treated me. Fast forward 25yrs of “here n there” sewing, an abusive marriage, finally finishing my Bachelors while working in retail management full time and then a having a child with medical issues that prevented me from returning to teaching. I was able to begin sewing again, making things for my daughter and allowing me an outlet as I dealt with raising a child with a “hidden disability” alone. After sewing my daughter’s first birthday outfit (that I threw together the night before, typical mom, am I right?!?), things blew up and friends begin asking me to make things for their kids too.
Two and half years later, I have a spot in a local boutique, participate in a bimonthly Market Days and am tackling my childhood dreams of sewing head on. I love the freedom that sewing grants me to be able to provide for my daughter as well as let the wheels of my imagination churn with new ideas. I am by no means an “expert” at sewing but I do greatly enjoy learning new techniques and having fun at the same time. I currently have a used Kenmore (out on loan to a dear friend), my trusty Singer S900, a recently acquired used Brother HE 240 Embroidery Machine that hasn’t yet been played with, a Brother ScanNCut that I abhor, a Cricut Explore Air & Cricut Explore Air2 as well as a Promo 6in1 Heat Press.
Can you tell I love to make things?!?!? LOL
